Information on accessing the Kansas Court public portal.
Search records at the courthousePublic court records are available at each courthouse. Each court has a computer reserved for public searches of court case information and court records in that court.
Sealed cases and sealed records are not public, and some cases are exempt from disclosure under the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-221). Other records may be exempt by judicial rule, order, or case law.

Cases and records that will not be accessible through the portal are identified in the Supreme Court's Kansas eCourt Rules (20-24).
Supreme Court Rule 22: Access to Public Electronic District Court Case Records
Case information vs. court records If a record is public but not available through the public access portal, it will be available at the courthouse. Each court has a computer reserved for public searches of court cases and court records in that court.
Sealed cases and sealed records are not public, and they can't be accessed through the courthouse terminal. Other records may not be available by state statute, judicial rule, order, or case law. Case information includes details about a case. This would be the case number, the type of case, who’s involved, names of attorneys, judge assigned, and hearing dates.
Court records include the documents filed in the case.
Information in some cases is not public because it’s sealed or is exempt from disclosure by state statute, judicial rule, order, or case law.
Information in some cases is not available through the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal but is available through a computer terminal at the courthouse.

Requesting a court record

If you are needing a record from the court, you will need to submit a request, in writing, to the Clerk of The District Court in the County where the case was filed. You may request a record by mailing or hand delivering a written request, emailing the Clerk of the District Court, or submitting a Kansas Open Records Request Form. Record Requests will be responded to within seventy two hours. You will be charged reasonable fees for staff time and expenses related to processing your records request. Supreme Court Rule 1.03(h) authorizes the Judicial Administrator to establish fees for open records requests, and current fees are shown below. You will be required to pay the cost before releasing the requested record. If an official records custodian determines help from a third party is needed to respond to a records request - such as a request that require reviewing or producing electronic records - the third party's charges may be imposed.

Traffic Ticket information

Information on TicketsTraffic tickets are issued by local sheriff's department and highway patrol and are filed where the violation occurs. At the time you receive your ticket, the officer will provide you with a copy of your ticket. Either on the front or the back of the ticket will be the name, address and telephone number of the court where your ticket will be filed. Please give the court office a call if you have any questions.
Either on the front or the back of your ticket will be a place for the officer to indicate how much you owe for your ticket. Not all violations have a set fine. If the officer has a scheduled fine for your violation, the officer will indicate the amount on your copy. (The amount of fine is doubled for violations committed in a construction zone and school zones.) If there is not a fine amount indicated, you must call the court in the county where you received the ticket prior to the date located at the bottom of your ticket.

To contest a ticket or to inquire about a diversion or any other plea negotiations concerning a traffic violation, you must contact the county attorney's office in the county where you received the ticket. If you are charged with more than one violation on your ticket, there is only one set of court costs. The court costs are set by statute and are payable whether or not an appearance in court is required. Please contact the Clerk of the District Court for the county in which your violation occurred to confirm whether a court appearance is mandatory. Failure to Pay Failure to take care of your traffic ticket by the date due may result in your driver's license being suspended (K.S.A. 8-2110). If you are a Kansas driver and your license is suspended for failing to comply with the terms of your ticket, there is a reinstatement fee of $122.00 assessed for each count on your case.
If you are an out-of-state driver and your license has been suspended for failure to take care of a violation in Kansas, you may owe a reinstatement fee to your state. It is your responsibility to produce proof of payment or compliance of a Kansas violation. The court will send you a notice to provide to your State's motor vehicle department.
Failure to Appear in CourtIf your ticket is one that requires an appearance in court and you fail to appear, the Judge may order a bench warrant to be issued for your arrest or may suspend your driver's license.

Fish and Game Ticket information

Information on TicketFish and game violation tickets are filed by the issuing officers in the county where the violation occurred. At the time you receive your ticket, the officer will provide you with a copy of your ticket. On the front or back of the ticket will be the name, address and telephone number of the court where your ticket will be filed. Please give the court office a call if you have any questions.
Also on your ticket will be a place for the officer to indicate how much you owe for your ticket. Not all violations have a set fine. If the officer has a scheduled fine for your violation, the officer will indicate the amount on your copy. If there is not a fine amount indicated, you must call the court in the county where you received the ticket prior to the date located at the bottom of your ticket. Several of these violations may require an appearance in front of the Judge because there may be other penalties involved besides a fine. The amount of the fine is in the judge's discretion.
Paying Your TicketThe date on the bottom of your ticket is actually the date your ticket is due to be paid. Please contact the court to confirm whether or not you will need to appear.
Contesting a TicketIf you wish to contest the ticket that was issued, you will need to call the court by the date on the bottom of your ticket.
Court CostsCourt costs must be paid for each case that is filed with the court and are in addition to the amount of the fine. If you are charged with more than one violation on your ticket, there is only one set of court costs. The court costs are set by statute and are payable whether or not an appearance in court is required.
Failure to Pay or Contest TicketFailure to take care of your citation could result in a warrant being issued for your arrest.
Additionally, failure to take care of your citation by the date due will result in your license, permit, stamp or other issue suspended or forfeited by the Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism (K.S.A. 32-1054). There is a $72 reinstatement fee assessed for each charge on your citation.
