FAQs

  • Paperwork received in the mail must be completed and returned to the Clerk of the District Court before the due date listed in your Jury Summons letter.

  • Jurors are chosen at random from current lists of persons age 18 and older, living in one of the 15th Judicial District counties, who are either registered voters or who have driver’s licenses. Some people are chosen several times during their lifetime; others are never chosen. So long as you are either a registered voter or have a driver’s license, you have the same chance of being chosen as anyone else who meets those criteria.

  • You must be at least 18 years of age, a United States Citizen and a resident of the county you received the summons from. You are excluded from jury service if you have been convicted, pleaded guilty, or pleaded nolo contendere to a felony within the preceding 10 years. You are also excluded if you are under a present adjudication of incompetency by the court. If you have received a jury summons but do not qualify for jury service, please contact your local Clerk of the District Court

  • Generally, to be excused from jury service for anything other than health reasons, you must appear in person and speak to the judge on the date you are summoned. Failure to honor the jury summons may subject you to a fine for contempt of court. If the scheduling of your jury service is the problem, you may reschedule your jury service ONE time only by contacting your local Clerk of the District Court.

  • The rate of reimbursement is set by the Board of County Commissioners. Your Clerk of the District Court will be able to tell you the rate for your county.

  • No, there is no Kansas law requiring employers to pay their employee while serving on a jury.

  • No, Kansas law provides that no employer may fire or threaten to fire any permanent employee on account of the employee's jury service or scheduled attendance in connection with jury service (K.S.A. 43-173).

    Directions From Main Courthouse Entrance

    From the main entrance, use the stairs to the Upper Level. Proceed to your right at the top of the stairs. Check in at the Clerk of the District Court window.

    Elevators are available.

    The main parking lot is located on the South side of the courthouse.  Parking is also available on the North side of the courthouse.

    Directions to Check In

    When entering from the South side (main entrance) you will take a right from the courthouse lobby.  District Court is the first door on your right.

    Handicap Accommodations

    Handicap restrooms are available in the basement of the courthouse.  There is an elevator available, adjacent to the courthouse lobby, to access the basement.  The handicap accessible entrance is located on the North side of the courthouse.

    Go up the stairs to the 3rd floor or use the elevator to the 3rd floor. There will be a table for juror check-in outside the Clerk of District Court office.

    Handicap Accommodations

    Handicap accessible door and parking is on the north side of the courthouse. The elevator is located on the west side of the building, to the right of the handicap accessible door entrance. Signs are posted.
